James Baker Jr. is an accomplished leadership coach, author, speaker, church consultant, certified life coach, and philanthropist whose life's work is dedicated to developing leaders, transforming communities, and helping individuals discover and maximize their God-given purpose. As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Grace & Truth Leadership Organization, James has become a trusted voice in leadership development, equipping leaders across corporate, nonprofit, ministry, and community organizations with practical strategies that inspire lasting personal and organizational growth.
Born and raised in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York, James understands firsthand the power of perseverance, faith, and mentorship. These experiences shaped his passion for helping others overcome obstacles and become transformational leaders within their families, workplaces, churches, and communities. Today, his leadership philosophy centers on servant leadership, integrity, emotional wellness, continuous learning, and the belief that every individual possesses unique gifts capable of creating meaningful change.
James brings more than three decades of leadership experience from Corporate America, having served over 30 years with a Fortune 500 company. Throughout his corporate career, he earned the respect of colleagues and executives alike for his ability to mentor employees, cultivate leadership potential, and foster environments built on trust, collaboration, and purpose. From 2003 through 2018, he also led a corporate Bible study and leadership development initiative that provided spiritual encouragement, mentorship, and leadership training for professionals seeking to integrate faith and excellence in the workplace.
His commitment to community leadership has always extended beyond the boardroom. Between 2004 and 2007, James served as a mentor for at-risk youth and juveniles through BronxConnect in the South Bronx, New York. Working with young people facing significant life challenges, he provided guidance, accountability, and encouragement while helping them recognize their value and envision brighter futures. His work with underserved youth continues to influence his leadership philosophy today, reinforcing his belief that every life has purpose and every person deserves someone willing to invest in their potential.
James' ministry journey has been equally impactful. He faithfully served as Senior Pastor of Grace & Truth Ministry Church from 2012 through 2017, where he preached, taught, counseled individuals and families, and developed leaders committed to serving both the church and their communities. His passion for leadership development eventually expanded beyond the local church, leading him to establish Grace & Truth Leadership Organization in 2017.

Under James' leadership, Grace & Truth Leadership Organization has grown into a leadership development organization focused on equipping leaders through coaching, consulting, leadership training, workshops, conferences, and educational resources. The organization exists to help individuals maximize their gifts, embrace their purpose, and lead with excellence in every area of life. Through customized leadership programs, executive coaching, church consulting, and organizational development, James continues to empower leaders across the country to create cultures built on integrity, vision, accountability, and service.
Education has always been a cornerstone of James' personal and professional development. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Labor Relations and Human Resources before pursuing both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Religious Education from New York Theological Seminary. His passion for teaching also led him to serve as an Adjunct Professor at New York Theological Seminary, where he shared his knowledge and experience with future ministry leaders and educators.
Recognizing that effective leadership requires continual growth, James has earned numerous professional certifications in leadership, coaching, counseling, diversity, organizational development, and public speaking. His certifications include Maxwell Leadership Certified Coach, Speaker, and Trainer; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consultant; Church Consultation University; Johnny Wimbrey Speaker's Mastery; Ziglar Legacy Certification; Johnston County Professional Growth and Leadership Certification; Foundations of Mental Health Coaching; Mental Health Coaching Skills; Mental and Behavioral Health Disorders; and Professional Life Coach Certification through the American Association of Christian Counselors. These credentials allow him to serve leaders with a well-rounded perspective that addresses both organizational excellence and personal well-being.
As an author, James has written four books focused on leadership, faith, personal growth, and purpose. His writings challenge readers to think intentionally about their calling, cultivate healthy leadership habits, and embrace continuous self-development. His book The Journey of Self-Care from the Inside Out encourages readers to prioritize emotional, spiritual, and personal wellness as essential components of effective leadership. His newest leadership resources, including The Gift Master Leadership Journal, continue to inspire individuals to recognize that their gifts are not merely talents but assignments designed to positively impact others.
James also remains deeply committed to giving back through community outreach and philanthropy. Through his Pay It Forward community initiatives, he actively encourages generosity, mentorship, and servant leadership by supporting individuals, families, and organizations in need. His desire to strengthen communities extends beyond words, as he believes that leadership is demonstrated through consistent acts of service and compassion.
Above all, James' mission is simple yet profound: to help people discover who they were created to be, maximize every opportunity before them, and leave a lasting legacy that transforms lives.
